Welcome to the Julie Pongrac Studio
This site has been the site featuring updates to the one-of-a-kind collection of knitwear designer, Julie Pongrac, and events taking place at the Julie Pongrac Studio, home of Gossamer Knitwear. Gossamer Knitwear opened to the public in November, 2008. Originally established to produce fine quality handknit wearables. Each design is intended to be timeless by focusing on masterful craftsmenship and the use of high quality materials. Considerable thought is put into colour selection and pattern choice for each item to optimize aesthetic and function in each garment.
This attention to design evolved into a diversification of work into objects of art and exhibition installations. The sculptural knitted lace vessels (below) are an example of this evolution. Each is uniquely designed by exploring the limits of knitting as a medium with the only intended function to be admired as art. The name of the studio was renamed Julie Pongrac Studio to reflect this shift in interests.
